Amazon Upgraded to Buy By Analyst And Other Fresh Moves
Tech stocks were down across the board today in advance of further earnings releases from other tech giants - some few stocks that had positive momentum were smaller cap stocks.
+ Shares in Amazon.com (AMZN) held steady after Stifel Nicolaus upgraded it to buy from hold, citing the belief the company was entering an operating leverage cycle. Specifically:
* Slower technology and content spending.
* Slower headcount additions.
* Greater selection and retail categories.
* More services.
* International expansion.
* More fixed cost scale driven by improving revenue growth trends.
* Lower logistics costs due to lower energy prices.
* Less sales and marketing spend as a percentage of gross merchandise value.
+ Shares of e-Future Information Technology (EFUT) rose 17% after the software company received a new contract with Johnson & Johnson (
+ Futuremedia (FMDAD) jumped 37% after the online education company said it is now in compliance with Nasdaq listing requirements. The company had been in danger of delisting since July for not meeting Nasdaq's bid-price requirement of $1 a share.
+ Shares of SigmaTel (SGTL) climbed 11% after the chipmaker said its audio technology will be used in TVs made by Samsung.
+ Sify shares (SIFY) fell 11% after the networking company posted poor third-quarter results. The company earned less than a penny a share - expectations were 3 cent per share - on revenue of $31.1M.
