AMD Is A Buzz Crusher
Advanced Micro Devices shares fell 12% AMD (AMD $17.80, -2.38, -11.8% ) after it warned lower PC chip prices would hurt its quarterly operating income, as it's getting crushed in a pricing war with Intel. Several analysts followed by downgrading the stock, including those from Citigroup, Prudential, Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. "We expect the Intel/AMD price war to continue for some time to come and AMD's gross margin to remain under pressure," says ThinkEquity's Eric Ross, who downgraded AMD to sell. Adding insult to injury: "We have also heard some major PC OEMs are disappointed in AMD's roadmap and are likely to move longer-term designs back to Intel."
